Gov’t revamps Mim Timber Company

The country’s President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, has presented a stimulus package to revamp the AYUM Timber Company located at Mim in the Asunafo North Municipality, Ahafo Region.

According to the government, GH 1.2 million cedis is the stimulus package to make the timber firm which collapsed under the previous government in 2016 due to poor management work exhibited then gets back on track to serve as a tool against unemployment cancar in the region and the country as a whole.

The Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr. Evans Opoku Bobie, who announced this when he met the management and staff of the company explained that the said amount of money classified as stimulus package is made to pay workers areas, revamping and getting new machines, taking care of electricity bills, retooling among others.

Addressing the staff numbered almost 1000 at the premises of the company last Monday, the Minister who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Asunafo North Constituency said the President Akufo Addo has selected 100 factories aside the one district one factory in the country that needs to be revived and per his( Ahafo Regional Minister) lobbying today AYUM Timber Company is named and it is even the first on the list to receive the stimulus package under the auspices of the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

He narrated because it was serving a good purpose for the region especially residents in the district, opinion leaders mounted pressure on him to talk with the country’s President to quickly reshape the company and behold it is back on track again.

Mr. Opoku Bobie said now Ahafo is a region and it has the Regional Coordinating Council in Goaso which is so close to Mim so he will be visiting the company unannounced to monitor the work of the staff. He added that the government will not entertain any unprofessional behaviour of staff so all must take note for their own good. He urged the chiefs to also monitor the activities of the staff all the time for value for money.

The General Secretary for Timber and Wood Union, Mr. Mark Ofori Asante, thanked the government for bring life again to the company and warned the workers to stick to good working behaviour for it to grow to employ more people within the district and its environs. He urged all to bring their hands on deck to make it perform excellently.

The Paramount Chief of Mim Traditional Council, Dr. Nana Okoforobour Yaw Adjei, said the entire Mim township is most grateful to the governmet headed by President Nana Addo and the Regional Minister for teaming-up to revive the dead and collapsed factory which was serving the region very well. He advised the staff to desist from engaging in shoddy work but rather see the company as their own to bring massive growth.
