Go to Hell, my appointment came from the Flagstaff House – MEGHIS Headmistress

Sylvia Isabella Laryea, Headmistress, Methodist Girls’ Senior High School

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he embattled headmistress of Methodist Girls Senior High School (MEGHIS), Mamfe, Ms. Sylvia Isabella Laryea has told her teachers and critics that her appointment as headmistress of the school came directly from the seat of the past NDC government-Flagstaff House.

At a staff meeting, Ms. Laryea was very emphatic that none of her teachers can question her on any decisions she takes or activities she engages in the school as her appointment came from the seat of [ads1]government in the previous administration.

The headmistress has been battling with some of her teachers in the school since 2015 after they demanded accountability of GH¢30,000 from their teachers’ welfare fund allegedly squandered by her.

She has also been accused on several occasions of intimidating her teachers who question or challenge her decisions. She succeeded with the assistance of officers of the Ghana Education Service to cause the mass transfer of over 20 teachers from the school since 2015.

The headmistress is also alleged to have masterminded and instigated a case of rape against one of her teachers who is a key player in the accountability crusade. The teacher has since sued the headmistress, GES, the AG, IGP, Crime officer of Akropong among others. The case will be heard on the 27th of January, 2017 in the Koforidua High Court.

The headmistress in an attempt to transfer the rest of her “accountability seeking teachers” hit the stone as the teachers have gone ahead to file an injunction against the purported illegal transfer and a suit demanding she accounts for the said GH¢30,000

Awake News has gathered that in spite of the filed injunction, the headmistress has instructed her security not to allow the teachers into the school to carry out their normal duties.

The same headmistress on November 9, 2016 managed to cause the arrest of a Facebook user who shared an Awake News’ story on her involvement in the missing GH¢30,000 from the teacher’s welfare fund.

One of the teachers from the school that spoke to Awake News on condition of anonymity said the headmistress is a thorn in their flesh.

“Ms Sylvia does not respect us as teachers. She is fond of insulting us before the students. She is engaged in practices and taking decisions that do not auger well for the general welfare of the students and will come at you if you challenge her. She is really a thorn our flesh”. The teacher said

According to the teachers, the headmistress has so much power that she manipulates and intimidates everybody which she attributed to the Flagstaff House under the NDC government.

“It is only my hope the new minister of education and other stake holders will take another look at MEGHIS” he added.
