Go burn the sea if you’re unhappy with Ofosu Ampofo’s comments – Kweku Boahen

Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress, Kweku Boahen, has slammed persons who have expressed disappointment over alleged comments made by the NDC National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.

Kweku Boahen could not phantom why Ofosu Ampofo is been vilified by a section of the public since his utterances resonated with the party members present at the meeting.

Kweku Boahen asserted that it was not out of place for the National Chairman to join the meeting of the party communicators on the said day as he has done so in the past.

He insisted that the party chairman did not say anything out of the ordinary and believed that his position reflected that of many of those present.

“It is a meeting with myself, Sammy Gyamfi and Ako Gunn as leaders. We meet our communicators to strategise on security and communication. Hon. Ofosu Ampofo joined us to motivate us and that is why you hear people clapping because they are happy. If someone doesn’t like it and wants to burn the sea they can go ahead,” he stated in a radio interview.

NDC National Chairman, Ofosu Ampofo in a recent leaked tape is alleged to have made some comments in respect of efforts by the party to disturb the security of the nation including admitting that the chaos that ensued at La Bawaleshie during the by-election is part of such operations.

These strategies according to the audio are to make the governing party unpopular and so it loses the goodwill among Ghanaians.

He has subsequently been invited by the Police CID to be interrogated and assist with investigations as his alleged comments have been described by many as irresponsible.

The Deputy Communications Officer of the NDC also made it clear that the cheers and clapping heard in response to the comments of the National Chairman of their party was a testament to the fact that they agreed with and like the comments that were made.

Kweku Boahen stressed that the audios that are been played in the media will not in any way deter them in NDC from pointing out the flaws of this government particularly what he believes to be the hardships been faced by Ghanaians.

“All that he said, party members are happy about it. He met the party members, they are happy about his utterances that is why they clapped at the comments. It was a meeting of our communication team, we meet once every week but some bad people joined the meeting. Kennedy Agyapong made portions of the audio available last week what you hear today is the rest of the audio. This will not discourage us from talking about the bad things happening in Ghana today,” he disclosed.

The position of Kweku Boahen was sharply contradicted by the Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi who in a separate interview described the leaked tapes as doctored and fake.

“I want us to put on record that the tape which is being circulated in the media is a doctored tape, it is totally fake and we will entreat the people of this country to treat it with the contempt it deserves. It has all the factors of a diversionary tactics,” he suggested.
