Give Osu Municipality And Stop Interfering In Chieftaincy Issues – Angry Osu Youth To First Lady, Speaker

First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo

The indigenes of Osu Traditional Area in the Greater Accra Region, have angrily called on the government especially the First Lady, Madam Rebecca Akufo-Addo and the Speaker of Parliament, Prof Mike Okwei to stop been favoritism against the legitimate Osu Mantse Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona IV, who doubles as the President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs and a representative at the National House of [ads1]Chiefs, but rather help Osu to achieve its aim of becoming a municipality.

According to the youth, some unscrupulous people are fermenting trouble in Osu to achieve their selfish interest as well as to put this year’s Homowo in limbo.

The youth revealed that these unscrupulous people are hiding behind the government, the First Lady and the Speaker of Parliament to unravel their evil agendas against the wish of the good people of Osu with impunity due to the backing they claim to have from some gurus of the NPP government.

The angry youth further revealed that these unscrupulous people had been captured severally claiming they have the backing and support from both the Presidency and the First Lady and that nobody can prevent them from doing what they want to do by preventing the Osu Mantse to perform his Traditional obligations during this year‘s Osu Homowo festival.

This came to light during the installation of wulomo in the Osu Traditional Area by some people claiming to be elders of Osu which the youth flatly disagreed with, saying the said Wulomo is not in the position to be installed with the said title.

According to them the said Wulomo which they the youth described as self-aclaimed Shipi and questioned his credibility and integrity adding that the tradition doesn’t promote or demote someone of his or her position by promoting from Shipi to Wulomo. This they said does not exist in Chieftaincy and Traditional matters.

The youth stated that as part of efforts to create unnecessary tension within the Osu Traditional Area, some elders have promoted and install one Jesse Nortey Ala as Wulomo who previously parades himself as Shipi but now has been promoted to the position of Wulomo to oversee the spiritual needs of the people.

It will be recalled that the Chiefs and elders of Osu Traditional Area have over the years made several appeals to the government both the previous and current administration to give Osu its Municipality to enhance massive development in the area which has not live to see the light of the day.

This, the youth reiterated that the government should rather focus on the development of the community and stay away from Chieftaincy matters which have already been solved in the past ten years by installing a recognize Chief who is also the President of the Regional House of Chiefs.

The youth further called on the security agencies especially those at the top to help maintain peace and order before, during and after the Homowo by consulting the Osu Traditional Council before making any move.
