Gifty Oware-Aboagye, the Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS) has debunked rumors that the service scheme is deducting monies from the allowances of National Service personnel to aid in the construction of the National Cathedral.
There was a lot of speculation that GHC100 will be deducted from the allowances of National Service personnel to aid in the construction of the Cathedral after the Finance Minister urged Ghanaians to donate towards the construction of the Cathedral during his reading of the mid-year budget in July.
However, Gifty Oware-Aboagye has proved to the contrary those rumors and has indicated that the allowances paid to Service personnel are untaxable hence monies cannot be deducted from the service personnel unless permission has been granted by the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA).
Speaking on GTV’s Breakfast Show on Monday, August 30, 2021, she said; “It’s never true, what happens is that the 559.05 I’m talking about, one there is no tax deduction on it. The figure comes as it is. No one can deduct anything unless it’s something that NASPA, that’s the personnel association approves of and their National Congress has already been held. They didn’t bring us anything that the council had stated that they want to so any donation to the Cathedral”.
