Ghana’s Paralympic team runs away after arrival in Norway

The Ghana’s Paralympic team has gone into hiding in other Schengen states after their arrival in OSLO, Norway on 25 April, 2024, for the Fjordkraft Bergen City Marathon.

In a document released by the National Security authority on July 3,2024 it suggested the eleven-member (11) team failed to register and participate in the competition slated for 27 April, 2024.

Adding that “Nana ANTWI, a team member was apprehended and detained on 26 April, 2024, by Norwegian security officials for attempting to depart Norway to Sweden on a one-way train ticket”.
the document indicated that “the Norwegian Embassy in ACCRA has issued alerts to other Schengen and Western Diplomatic Missions in ACCRA, and the European Border Coast Guard Agency as part of efforts to apprehend and repatriate the team members”.

Though reasons for the team absconding is not revealed, it noted “George Gyamfi GYASI, the team coach, collapsed on 28 April, 2024 and was admitted to the Oslo University Hospital, ULLEVAL, where he passed away on 17 May, 2024”.
