Ghana Water Company terminates contracts of staff hired in November 2024

In a shocking move, the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has terminated the contracts of employees who were hired in November 2024.

The affected employees received appointment letters from the company, offering them positions as Management Trainees in the Customer Care department.

According to the appointment letters, the employees were supposed to start work on a probationary period of six months, after which their suitability for the role would be assessed.

However, before they could even complete their probationary period, the company under the leadership of Mutawakilu has decided to sack them.

The reasons behind the sudden termination of the employees’ contracts are unclear.

However, sources within the company suggest that the decision may be linked to ongoing mass dismissals of the people employed by the last administration.

The affected employees are said to be devastated by the news, having already resigned from their previous jobs and relocated to take up their new roles at GWCL.

Many of them have expressed frustration and disappointment at the company’s decision, which they claim has left them without a source of income.

The Ghana Water Company Limited has not officially commented on the matter, but insiders suggest that the company may be facing financial difficulties, which may have prompted the decision to terminate the contracts of the newly hired employees.

The development has raised concerns about the stability and security of employment in the country’s public sector especially in the face of the change of government.

However, many are calling on the government to intervene and ensure that the rights of the affected employees are protected.
