Ghana Police’s Statement on NAM1’s Arrest: Why Does Akufo-Addo Want Weak Institution?

President Akufo-Addo’s manipulation of our state institutions and an apparent lack of respect for the institutions and those who head them, is becoming worrying.

The police’s hysteria over NAM1’s saga has exposed ethical transgressions, incestuous equations and dubious transactions going on between Government and our state institutions also show that President Akufo Addo is not a democrat and incorruptible as he claims. Now the President and his cronies stand badly exposed. The man who claimed was incorruptible, suddenly, is looking rather shaky on his own fake high moral perch.

What should worry all well meaning Ghanaians, human right activists and our civil society organizations are some ominous signals that reflect the President’s lack of respect for institutions. A pattern is beginning to emerge and the earlier we vehemently oppose its growth, the better…

After reading the latest statement by the police in connection with the NAM1 saga, I almost dropped tears. Why should an institution like the police, be reduced to this level. In a desperate attempt to clear that shameful tag on the President as a result of his dealings with Nana Mensah, the police heads are violating ethics of their profession and exposing the respected institutions to public ridicule.

Every Ghanaian knows that the Akufo Addo government is the most corrupt in the history of our nation. The Government is not only useless and clueless but also has an insatiable appetite for corruption and the President’s manipulation of state institutions cannot save him from total humiliation come 2020. In an unexpected but unsurprising turn of events, the President and the cabal around him are planning to persecute some former NDC appointees to divert the public’s attention from the Menzgiold saga and the many scandals. It is obvious to Ghanaians who have been following the President and his Special Prosecutor’s moves that the entire drama is a very weak but desperate plot to stop people from exposing the rot in this clueless and insensitive government. It is not the first time that President Akufo Addo is manipulating a state institution to get at his perceived political opponents and critics.

The President cannot clear himself of this mess. The tag is too thick for this kindergarten tricks. The more the police and other state institutions attempt to clear the tag, the clearer the president’s complicity becomes. The police should go over statements made by its officers in relation to this saga and compare them its latest statement.

Facts are facts and shall forever remain so. Nana Appiah is an ardent supporter of the NPP. We saw him in 2008. The mother is a known NPP person who once contested for the PC position (primaries) in her constituency. We know the role NAM1 played in the party’s (NPP) recently held congress in Koforidua, we know the support he gave to some of the contestants and the V8 he bought for one of the who now occupies a top position in the party. We know the mother’s Masloc issue and how the issue with the market women was resolved.

He had unlimited access to the President and became an ex officio member of this administration. He enjoyed full VVIP treatment, traveled with the President and top government officials. Government in collaboration with some private organizations, conferred awards on NAM1. I don’t think the security agencies statements and contradictions can wipe away these indelible marks. The President must live with that and act appropriately next time.

Who said arrest of NAM1 and the drama we witnessing will help pay the customers. We are where we are because this government’s incompetence and baselines rigid stance on sensitive national issues. Before this useless Ramboism. Menzgold was paying its customers and we never head any negative news. Government’s failure to act professionally was what caused the mess the customers are going through
