GFA dissolution coup d’état – Nyaho-Tamakloe

Former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has said the “hasty” dissolution of the local arm of FIFA amounts to a coup d’état.

The government of Ghana announced the dissolution following the [ads1]uncovering of massive rot in the GFA by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in his Number 12 undercover documentary, which, among other things, captured GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi taking bribe and also using President Nana Akufo-Addo’s name for personal gain.

Mr Nyantakyi resigned after FIFA imposed a 90-day provisional ban on him.

Speaking on the aftermath of the exposé, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe told Ghanaweb’s 21 Minutes that: “I’ll say the decision has been too hasty, if I were close to government I would have advised them to take their time a bit because the FA has a constitution…”

“What has been done there is a form of coup d’état; to come out with a fiat that you are dissolving them, no. I don’t believe that is the right thing to do. I would have advised that they be allowed to use their own statutes to see whether they can come out of this mess”, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said.
