GES detects Fraud in ‘One Teacher One Laptop’ project

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has caught sight of fraud in the one teacher one laptop project in the Ashanti Region.

According to the management, Metrolitan Municipal and District Directors of Education in submitting names of teachers for the laptops added some strange names with fake staff IDs which comprises non-teaching staff, retired or separated staff.

A statement signed by the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Mary Owusu Afriyie, said the conduct amounts to fraud.

Adding, “District Directors of Education are requested to ask Headteachers to be responsible for the names being submitted”.

The communique further tasked all district directors of education to validate the list and submit an updated one.

“All District Directors of Education are requested to validate the list which has been sent and submit an updated list by close of work on Tuesday, 31. August.

The statement stressed that only Junior High School teachers are supposed to be beneficiaries of the project.
