GES Changes Vacation Date For Public Basic Schools.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed that all Public Basic Schools in the country vacate on Friday December 16, 2022.

The initial date for the third term vacation was postponed enabling the Primary Four (P4) pupils to write the ongoing National Standardized Test (NST) on Friday December 16, 2022.

This was disclosed in a letter from the headquarters of GES on Wednesday December 14, 2022, requesting all Regional Directors of Education to communicate this information to the Metro/Municipal/District Directors of Education to inform all Heads of Basic Schools to take note of the said amendment and comply accordingly.

The letter also explained that the reopening date for the First Term of the next academic year is also shifted to January 10, 2023.

Meanwhile, the initial academic calendar for 2022 is set to vacate for third term and resume for the next academic year on December 15, 2022, and January 9, 2023, respectively.

The National Standardized Test (NST) was introduced by the Ministry of Education through the Ghana Education Service last year to assess all Basic Two and Basic Four pupils in Mathematics and English language across the country towards the inspection of the individual learning outcomes in the various Schools for an informed decision making on the new curriculum. The NST is not set to rank schools but to improve teaching and learning in public schools.

Last year, only Basic Four pupils took part in the examination but this year the Basic Two pupils have written theirs already leaving the Basic Four pupils to write on Friday December 16, 2022.
