GALs World launches RED Tour; supports over 400 girls at Somanya

Golden Age Leaders (GALs World), a women empowerment organization has on Friday, October 27, 2017, launched its RED Tour project at Somanya in the Yilo  Krobo District in the Eastern Region.

[ads1]The RED Tour project which seeks to educate young women in junior high schools on issues affecting their health and how they can get focused on achieving academic excellence and their career goals has its first stop at the SDA School, Sra Presby, Ogome Anglican JHS and New Somanya JHS.

The young girls were engaged on topics of how to handle personal hygiene in the event of menstruation and how to cultivate the culture of saving towards their personal needs.

The project team led by the organization’s National Coordinator, Daavi Eli, Eastern Regional Coordinator, Harriet Yaba and Communications Coordinator, Maame Abena donated dozens of a sanitary pad to the schools which were distributed to over 400 pupils in the adolescence stage.

PPAG Legon Chapter supported the project with resource persons and sexual reproductive educational materials for the girls.

Speaking to Awake News’ Korsi Senyo, the Eastern Regional Coordinator of GALs World, Ms. Yaba said, the choice of the piloted of the project was necessitated by media reports that young girls in the region become school dropouts and teenage mothers  as a result of their quest to have access to money for  sanitary pad from men and ended falling in the early sex trap from inconsiderate men.

The leadership of the organization hinted that the project which was overwhelmingly supported  PPAG Legon Chapter, Rite FM and YouthLead Africa have come to stay and will be replicated across the districts in the country.

In an interview in Awake News, the National Coordinator, Daavi Eli born Blessing Elikem Narh appealed to corporate bodies and organizations to join hands to help support the girl child.

She bemoaned the rate at which some parents neglect their females children in their adolescent stages. Daav Eli called on parents to pay much attention to some basic needs of their females children, particularly in the ripe stages.

She also ceased the opportunity to thank partners and GALs World members for their cash and kind contributions towards the procurement of the sanitary pads and the overall success of the project.
