The Government has finally released the report on the recent uproar in Ejura in the Ashanti Region.
On June 26, 2021, a social media activist, Mohammed Ibrahim, aka Kaaka was attacked by unknown assailants at his residence around 1:30am and left in a critical condition.
He was rushed to Ejura Government hospital for treatment but subsequently referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital where he died.
The Circumstances surrounding his demise led to the youth of Ejura embarking on a demonstration after his burial.
It resulted in a clash between the youth and the security officers which caused the death of two people and several others injured.
The Minister of Interior set up a three-member committee chaired by the Court of Appeal Judge, Justice George Koomson to probe into the Ejura riots and present its report.
The three-member committee put together by the government to look into the Ejura disturbances in their report recommended the immediate transfer of the District Police Commander of Ejura, DSP Philip Kojo Hammond, first for his incompetence in handling the situation and for the fact that his relationship with the community seems to have been damaged beyond repair.
The committee also recommended adequate Compensation for the families of the two deceased persons, namely, Abdul Nasir Yusif and Murtala Suraj Mohammed. Adequate compensation must also be paid to other injured persons, namely Louis Ayikpa, 20 ; Awal Misbau,16 ; and Nasif Nuhu, 30. These are the names known to the Committee.
The committee further recommended the structural expansion of the Ejura Police Station and an increase in personnel and also recommended the removal of the Ejura–Sekyedumase Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable Mohammed Salisu Bamba, since his continuous presence as MCE would exacerbate the already tense security situation in Ejura.
