Forestry Commission, YEA to employ 15,000 youth

The Forestry Commission has signed a Service Agreement with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) to employ 15000 youth as part of the Youth in Aforestation Module in Accra.

This is in line with the His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-[ads1]Addo’s vision of creating jobs opportunities for the teaming unemployed youth of the country as outlined in the New Patriotic Party’s 2016 manifesto of job creation.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie signed on behalf of his Commission and Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong, the Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency signed for his agency.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister for Lands and Forestry Hon. Benito Owusu Bio, the Board Chairman of the Forestry Commission Brigadier Odei (Rtd), the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, Mr. John Allotey, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency in charge of Finance and Administration, Ms. Lydia Atiemo and other officials from the two agencies.

In a brief statement prior to the signing of the agreement, the Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission,  Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie (Sir John) underscored the importance of the Youth in Aforestation programme which among other is to create jobs for the jobless youth of the country as promised by the President of the Republic of Ghana, H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. It is also, to engaged more youth in tree planting, protection of forest cover and to carry out forest plantation activities.

Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie mentioned that the programme will be rolled out fully in January 2018 to engage 15000 youth for two year duration with each beneficiaries entitled to Four Hundred Ghana Cedis (GHC400.00) as an allowance per month.

He stated that the Forestry Commission had already employed 10,000 farmers as part of the Commission’s Modified Taungya System which fits into the NPP government’s effort of job creation and the protection of the country’s forest reserve.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency, Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong stated that an amount of Six Million Ghana Cedis (GHC6,000,000.00) has been released by the government towards the payment of January allowances of the beneficiaries.

Lawyer Justin Kodua assured the youth that the government of the New Patriotic Party led by H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo through YEA is poised to employ a good number of jobless youth to enable them to earn a decent living.

He mentioned that YEA is in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government and the Ghana Police Service to employ 5000 and 15000 respectively.

The Youth Employment Agency is also working with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to roll out Sports related programmes which will employ more than 5000 youths. He mentioned that the Youth Employment Agency is in the process of unveiling new programmes to engage the youth in gainful employment.

He assured the youth of the NPP government’s commitment to industrialised the economy to create more jobs opportunities to enable them get employed.
