Food Shortage in SHSs: Duty bearers should stop being defensive and do the needful – GNAT

Thomas Musah, the General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has called on the government to treat concerns about food shortages hitting some Senior High Schools as an emergency.

Thomas Musah expressed concerns about the government’s tendency of downplaying such issues when they are raised and stressed that challenges are brought up not to bring any government down but rather to ensure that the conditions of students are favorable for the teaching and learning process to smoothly go on.

Speaking on the Citi Break Fast Show on Wednesday, August 31, 2021, Thomas Musah said; “When we bring these things up, it is not to bring somebody down, but it is to bring to the attention of the duty bearers that the conditions under which our children are learning in our SHSs and our basic schools are not the best.”

In furtherance, Mr. Musah chastised the authorities for using a defensive approach to tackle the issue.

“The duty bearers should stop defending and taking that kind of posture being put up. It will not help anybody. We all have a stake. We all believe that we need to do something to help our children learn and learn well”, Mr. Musah said.
