#Fix the Country Movement seeks ‘Vote of No Confidence’ in 1992 Constitution

#Fix the Country Ghana Movement, a social justice campaign group, has begun a campaign to get 1 million signatures to express a Vote of No Confidence in the 1992 Constitution.

The group, in a live streaming press conference, held at the Neoplan Station, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, in Accra on August 23, 2021, opined that, the current Constitution seeks to benefit a few political elites, including giving unlimited powers to the Executives, at the disadvantage of the masses.

It also stated that the referendum that brought about the 1992 Constitution did not have the blessing of the total populace.

“Over 50% Ghanaians did not vote in the referendum that brought about the Constitution. We are beginning a vote of no confidence in the constitution”, the group said.

The group believes the current Constitution has given power to a few people in political power to control and mismanage the national resources that are meant for the good of all Ghanaians.

Speakers at the press conference also used the event to intensify #Fix the Country Ghana’s calls for justice for popular social media, social justice activist Ibrahim Mohammed, popularly known as Kaaka, who was recently murdered by a suspected assailant, and other persons killed during a subsequent stress protest in Ejura.

The group is taking stock of its August 4, 2021 demonstration, where it announced it would be taking it to the various regions across the country.

Leaders of the group at the Monday August 23 press conference expressed, among a number of other concerns, current high cost of living in the country.
