Fear of Guinea – Yayra Koku mocks Akufo-Addo over GHC237k salary increment refund

On Tuesday, September 7, 2021, Mr. Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the Presidency disclosed during the weekly Jubilee House press briefing that President Akufo-Addo has refunded GHC237,974 being the salary increment granted to him from January to August, this year.

Earlier, a recommendation by the Prof. Yaa Ntiamoah-Baidu Emoluments Committee led to a significant increase in salaries paid to Article 71 Officeholders.

In the new salary arrangement, President Akufo-Addo was to take home a monthly pay of GHC47,277, thus a GHC4,298 increase on his previous salary of GHC42,979.

However, amid this year’s May Day celebration, the President said that despite the recommendations by the Emoluments Committee, he will not increase the salary of Article 71 Office Holders.

NDC’s Yayra Koku has attributed the President’s decision to forgo his salary increment to the coup which took place in Guinea on Sunday, September 5, 2021.

Taking to Facebook, Yayra Koku wrote; “The fear of Guinea. Akufo-Addo refunds GHC237k as salary increment from Emoluments C’ttee recommendations”.
