In a new year message to the IGP, the Coalition has “acknowledged the dedication and the tirelessness efforts of the Police Service to maintain peace, law, and order in our dear motherland”

The message signed by the Chairman of the Coalition, Eben Kwaku Fenuku ceased the opportunity to remind the Police Service about the pockets of violence in Bawku and Mamponteng.

“we would like to draw the attention of the Ghana Police Service to the isolated cases of mayhem and violence (in Bawku and Mamponteng recently) and the gradual surge in theft, robbery, violence and crime in the nation. The Police must intensify their patrols in the identified flashpoints and increase their visibility throughout the length and breadth of the nation to curb crime, mayhem and violence.”

NEW YEAR’S MESSAGE FROM THE COALITION OF CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS (CSOs) AGAINST POLITICAL VIGILANTISM TO THE GHANA POLICE SERVICE

The leadership of the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) against political vigilantism wishes the Ghana Police Service under the leadership of Dr George Akuffo Dompare a happy and prosperous New Year, 2022. We acknowledge the dedication and the tirelessness efforts of the Police Service to maintain peace, law and order in our dear motherland. We sincerely hope and pray that the Ghana Police Service would be equipped with the requisite capital, logistics, technology, intelligence and human resources to carry out its mandate effectively and efficiently.

The CSOs against political vigilantism in Ghana wish him to remind the Ghana Police Service that although the year 2022 has merely begun, there are many unsolved high-profiled murder and crime cases that were carried forward into 2021 from previous years. We want to urge the Police Service to fast-track the prosecution of these cases whose dockets have far outlived their existence. Similarly, we urge the Police Service to provide the Judicial Services the requisite documents, evidence and information to process criminals for prosecution in record time in 2022.

We petition the Police Service not to treat criminal cases this year with the usual lethargy, lassitude and unnecessary delays as has been the norm for a long time now. This would deter other burgeoning criminals from carrying up arms and destabilize the peace and security of the nation. Let us not forget that justice delayed is justice denied: NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW

Finally, we would like to draw the attention of the Ghana Police Service to the isolated cases of mayhem and violence (in Bawku and Mamponteng recently) and the gradual surge in theft, robbery, violence and crime in the nation. The Police must intensify their patrols in the identified flashpoints and increase their visibility throughout the length and breadth of the nation to curb crime, mayhem and violence.

They must be quick to crack the whip on any individual, individuals, or groups of persons that would comprise the peace and security of this nation through their words or deeds: actions or inactions. We hope to see a more active, pragmatic, dynamic, result-oriented Ghana Police Service in 2022 than we have ever seen. May the Ghana Police Service be guided by their motto “Service with Integrity” because protecting the lives and property of fellow Ghanaians is SERVICE WITH INTEGRITY

Signed
Eben Kwaku Fenuku
Chairman, CCSAPV
