“Those to be recruited for the training have already been screen and gone through some interviews. However, your outfit can still screen and interview them for the purpose of credibility and loyalty. This will afford them the opportunity to prepare themselves well aeahd of the 2020 elections which by all indication will be very cruitial” – the letter said.

The letter also alleged that “The NDC, are intelligence indicates is recruiting people to cause disorder before, during and after the election following what happed at Ayawaso West-Wuogon By-Elections” adding that “We know for a fact that the NDC is not ready to accept defeat and will, therefore, do anything to destabilise the country which we must not allowed to happen.”

This letter is popping up at the wake of series of allegations by the opposition NDC, former President John Mahama, 2nd Deputy Speak of Parliament, Alban Bagbin that the ruling NPP and government are training thugs at Asutuare for the 2020 elections. The Flagbearer of the NDC, John Mahama also claimed he sighted a letter by the Upper West Security Council requesting that some members of the governing NPP be presented for combat training for next year’s election was proof.

However, the government and the ruling NPP have denied the allegation saying the opposition NDC should provide evidence of their claim amid dozens of pictures circulating on social media showing some men undergoing military training tagged as those the NPP is training. The National Security Secretariate also dismissed the allegations.

Deputy Defence Minister, Major (Rtd) Derek Oduro assured that nothing of that nature was ongoing at the training camp and that there was no way the Ghana Armed Forces will agree to such a scheme.

“That is baseless, it has no substance. The Ghana Armed Forces does not accept any political party in any of its military barracks or camps.

“If you put any party paraphernalia or sticker on your car, you cannot enter Burma Camp. They will tell you to remove it if you want to enter the camp or go back. It is never, ever true,” he said in an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story.
