Flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed his commitment to fighting corruption. The former President indicated that any appointee under his administration would be held accountable for their performance.

Addressing Ghanaian youth at a Town Hall meeting in Accra on Monday, August 12, 2024, Mahama expressed his strong dislike for corruption and the abuse of public office.

According to him, public service is not an avenue for self-enrichment but an opportunity to serve the people. He emphasized that the fight against corruption must start within his own ranks, and he is committed to this cause.

Mahama advised NDC members who wish to make money to focus on the private sector, adding that his government will provide support to companies that employ the large number of unemployed youth.

Mahama said “If people want to come into government and make money then we can’t help you, go into the private sector, we will help you set up a cassava processing plant go and process cassava, employ young people, don’t and come and take public office”.

To ensure a vibrant public sector, Mahama acknowledges the necessity of fighting corruption. “Once you take public office, you must be prepared to be held accountable,” he said.
