Election 2024: Electoral Commission sets May 7 to 27 for voters’ registration

Electoral Commission is set to register new voters starting from May 7 for Election 2024

The Electoral Commission (EC) has set May 7-27, 2024 for the registration of new voters as it prepares to organize election 2024.

According to the EC, this exercise is to allow those who just turned 18 and People who are above 18 but are not registered to register for as voters.

Deputy Chairman of the Commission in charge of Operations, Mr. Samuel Tettey at a May Day Forum by Organized Labour said all political parties are aware of the schedule.

“Voting registration is often the most complex and expensive component of the electoral process and it involves identifying which citizens are eligible to vote and producing a list of register of voters for use on polling day.

“Often a contested process and if wrong, they comprise the entire election process, so the voters’ register plays an important role in securing a very successful election,” he explained.

Also, Mr. Tettey said an exhibition of the voters’ register will follow after the registration exercise to enable for corrections of errors.

Election 2024 is promising to be one of the trickiest in recent times due to the caliber of candidates contesting. While former President John Mahama is a known face on the ballot paper, he will be lacing up his boots against top contender Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Also preparing for election 2024 are new faces such as Nana Kwame Bediako of The New Force and the alliance between former CPP presidential candidate Abu Sakara and former Trade Minister Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanten.
