A legal luminary has reacted to the leave notice of the Electoral Commission, describing it as another unempathetic and arrogant notice from the electoral body.
Dr. Rainer Akumperigya, a barrister and lecturer, on his Facebook wall questioned why the EC would disregard the challenges it has created in the Election that is beginning to escalate tension and proceed on leave.
He argued that, “this is no sincere notice of Leave. Rather, it is another unempathetic and arrogant notice that the EC has washed its hands off this disputed election and no one can do anything about it. This is the same posture exhibited by its Techiman South Returning Officer who refuses to handover election documents to the NDC as mandated by law”.

Why does the public need to know that the EC is going on Leave? When did they ever inform us of their statutory or self-imposed Leave? The EC knows that even by law, this election is far from over. The time limit to exhaust Presidential election disputes is not over. There are also a number of contested Parliamentary seats.
More crucially, Lolobi and Akpafu did not even have a chance to exercise their constitutional right to vote in the Parliamentary elections, via the EC’s own unlawful directive. As the empire, the EC will be required at some point to supply evidence when necessary. That will mean working in official capacities.
So what exactly does the EC mean by being on Leave until 19th January.
This is no sincere notice of Leave. Rather, it is another unempathetic and arrogant notice that the EC has washed its hands off this disputed election and no one can do anything about it. This is the same posture exhibited by its Techiman South Returning Officer who refuses to handover election documents to the NDC as mandated by law.
This will end. And when it does, God, truth and good conscience will be the winner, not evil.
