EC must ensure re-exhibition of voters register – NDC

Omane Boamah on EC

The Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has expressed dissatisfaction with the work of the Electoral Commission (EC) and has called for a re-exhibition of the electoral register.

His statement comes after the EC, on Monday, September 2, 2024, denied claims that it had inflated the voter register to favor the ruling New Patriotic Party.

The commission’s Deputy Chairman, Dr Bossman Asare, at a press conference in Accra, indicated that the EC had no intention of helping any political party ahead of the December elections.

In response to the EC’s recent press conference, Dr. Boamah stated, “The Electoral Commission has admitted that their data management is not only poor but incurably pathetic if external assistance is not urgently injected.”

According to the former Minister for Communication, the commission is siding with the ruling New Patriotic Party and has called for a forensic audit of the EC’s operations.

He further questioned the credibility of the EC saying “if the register is credible, why did the Deputy Chairman state that Pusiga was able to transfer people without recourse to the process?”

In a social media post,  outlined some recommendation to the EC, saying “because many EC Regional Directors and District Electoral Officers are aware this register is not credible”.

He added that the NDC is demanding that the EC fully explain what transpired at Pusiga, which led to the director’s interdiction.
