EC deliberately tampered with voter register, making it unfit for purpose – NDC

Omane Boamah on EC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has alleged that the recently compiled voter register by the Electoral Commission (EC) has been deliberately tampered with, making it unfit for use in the upcoming December 7 general elections.

According to the party, many discrepancies identified in the register during the just-ended voter register exhibition exercise make it a threat to the outcome of the upcoming polls.

The NDC further asserted that a forensic audit of the register is required to address the defects that the party claims were noted.

In a statement on social media, the NDC’s Director of Elections and I.T, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, wrote, “…the NDC across the country has proven that the register compiled by the EC is unfit for purpose.

“Without a forensic audit or thorough parliamentary investigation of the EC’s voters’ register, the register will remain incurably defective.”

He continued, “The exhibition exercise has revealed avoidable problems, which, if not resolved, can jeopardize the outcome of the 2024 elections,” asserting that “it’s obvious the register has deliberately been tampered with!”

The party, however, demands that Ghanaians and the international community pressure the EC to allow for a forensic audit of the register if Parliament fails to investigate.

“If Parliament fails, Ghanaians together with the international community, must exert enough pressure on the EC to permit forensic audit of their system, including the register,” Dr. Boamah stated.
