Eastern Corridor Road abandoned: youth threatens tough action if…

A group calling itself “Fix Eastern Corridor Road Now” is threatening tough action if government continue to be silent on the completion of the Eastern Corridor Road, especially the stretch from Peki-Adzokoe to Hohoe through to Jasikan in the Volta Region.

Speaking to Awake News‘ Efo Korsi Senyo, the leader of the group, Mr. Andrews Olator said work on the road has stalled after the [ads1]change of government leaving the those parts of the road in a very deplorable state.

“the road from Hohoe to Jasikan is in a very bad state that any time we are travelling to Jasikan, we have to divert through Lolobi even though that road too is not good….but it’s better than the main road” – Mr. Olator said.

According to Mr. Olator, the situation is worse when it rains making it very difficult for motorists which is going a long way to affect economic activities.

When asked why they will not be a little bit patient with government since the contact has been awarded, this is what Mr. Olator has to say ….”there is no need to be patient more than have we have been. That part of the road  was awarded to Messrs Rolider and work was ongoing before the change of government. All of a sudden, the contactors packed and left the site making the road be in the state in which it is now”

Couple of days ago, the Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Dr Bernice Adiku Heloo, has expressed worry over the status of that same road and filed a question in parliament to that effect.

The Deputy Minister, Mr. Owusu Aduomi appeared on the floor of Parliament on Friday, October 13 to answer the question filed by the MP who wanted to know what plans the Ministry was putting in place to complete the road project.

In response, Mr. Owusu Aduomi accused the NDC government of failing to complete the road within the stipulated two years period, a response the Hohoe MP found worrying.

Fix Eastern Corridor Road Now, is calling on MPs in the affected areas, Hon. Rockson Dafeamekpor, MP South Dayi, Hon. Angela Oforiwa Alorwu-Tay, MP Afadzato South, Hon. Bernice Adiku Heloo, MP Hohoe, Hon. Daniel Kwesi Ashiamah, MP Buem to join force ensure the road if complete before the situation gets out of hand.
