The National Youth Organizer of opposition party, the NDC, George Opare Addo has said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo must listen to the counsel from the Ghana Medical Association before easing restrictions on public gatherings and events.
Mr Opare Addo said the President must be diligent to listen to expert opinion rather than pedestrian comments from his party leadership.
Speaking on Dadi FM Thursday morning, Pablo as he is known by, said he is aware the pressure from power drunk NPP National Executives on government to rescind the restrictions put in place to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.
“I have heard calls by some NPP national executives for the President to remove the restrictions on public gatherings and schools put in place to stop the spread of the virus, but I believe it is only the Ghana Medical Association that has the expertise to recommend such a move and not power drunk NPP politicians,” he said.
According to him, the President was not to have consulted the GMA before lifting the lockdown about a month ago and that mistake must not be repeated.
The firebrand youth leader noted that, “The President was wrong to have lifted the lockdown before consulting the Ghana Medical Association. This time, he must consult them before doing anything drastic.”
He chided the President for what he called “misplaced priorities” for lifting the lockdown when we were recording increasing cases of infections.
There are increases in calls by the NPP for the President to remove the ban on public gatherings and closure of schools after almost two months. Both the Ghana Medical Association and Teacher Unions have kicked against the move saying there is risk of more people becoming infected if restrictions are lifted.
