The Strategic Thinkers Network (STRANEK) Africa, a governance think tank is reminding President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the assault on DSP Nanka Bruce by members of the NPP Invincible Forces at the Jubilee House two years ago.
STRANEK-Africa in a communiqué signed by its Executive Director, Nii Tettey Tetteh is mounting pressure on the government to arrest and prosecute persons involved in the criminal act and bring justice to the assaulted officer.
The think tank insists that several petitions sent to the President have been ignored and perpetrators of the dastardly act left unpunished and “all efforts to get justice for him seem to be falling on deaf ears.”
“We have since sent series of petitions to H.E. the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, H.E. the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Hon. Chief of Staff at the Presidency, the Inspector General of Police, the Directors of Criminal and Investigations Department and Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police. Yet, not a single of these petitions have been replied to or a necessary action taken upon,” STRANEK stated.
According to STRANEK-Africa, though there is enough evidence to prosecute the attackers, justice has not been served after two years of the incident despite the assurance from government.
“… in March, 2017, we are aware that a circuit court in Accra issued a warrant for the arrest of the perpetrators of these crimes. We at STRANEK-AFRICA have since monitored and followed keenly, government with the law enforcement agencies to carry out this arrest and bring justice to the affected police chief and his family only to be disappointed and learn that no such effort has been made to carry out this court order.
STRANEK-Africa further urged President Akufo-Addo to remember the oath took to “protect and defend the Constitution as well as do good to all manner of persons and hope that he gives meaning to that oath by ensuring that justice is served.”

JUSTICE FOR DSP NANKA BRUCE STILL IN A LIMBO AFTER 2 YEARS- STRANEK
STRANEK-AFRICA extends season’s greetings to you all, wishing the very best of the new year.
As a major stakeholder in the struggle for good governance and rule of law, we wish to once again draw the attention of H.E. President Akufo-Addo and his government to an action which occurred on 9th January, 2017, exactly 2 years ago.
This action by some thugs associated with the New Patriotic Party government, led to a brutal assault on the head of Police Security at the Flagstaff House, DSP Nanka Bruce at the time.
The assault according to reports, extended to his official residence with his personal vehicles forcibly taken and towed away by these thugs. This event was captured on CCTV camera and intercepted by various news media and other social media portals.
Following the widespread condemnation of this act, government assured the Ghanaian populace that persons alleged to have been involved in the assault of the police chief were going to be located, arrested and dealt with according to the laws. Indeed, in March , 2017, we are aware that a circuit court in Accra issued a warrant for the arrest of the perpetrators of these crimes.
We at STRANEK-AFRICA have since monitored and followed keenly, government with the law enforcement agencies to carry out this arrest and bring justice to the affected police chief and his family only to be disappointed and learn that no such effort has been made to carry out this court order.

Our checks have even revealed a more disturbing situation where we learn that some of these alleged culprits have since found their way to be employed into some security agencies.
We believe that this trend has the propensity to breed lawlessness especially at the highest office of the land. All efforts to get justice for him seem to be falling on deaf ears.
The sad news is that DSP Nanka Bruce’s ordeal at the hands of hoodlums at the presidency is not unique as there are various stories of how police stations were ransacked with some police officers injured or had to run for their lives.
As an advocate of human rights, we once again remind H.E. the President of the oath he swore to protect and defend the Constitution as well as do good to all manner of persons and hope that he gives meaning to that oath by ensuring that justice is served.
We are all involved in building our motherland Ghana.
