The Concerned supporters of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Asuogyaman District has dispatched a strong statement to the Local Government Minister to thread cautiously in trying to impose a DCE on them.
To the supporters of the NPP in the district, they will make the party unattractive in the constituency should Dan Botwe, the Minister, impose his choice of DCE candidate, Owusu Banahene Frimpong, on the District.
Led by Asare Ronald Alex, convener and grassroots crusader of the NPP in the Asuogyaman Constituency, the angry supporters mentioned three reasons that make Mr Banahene unfit to be their DCE.
Not only is Mr Banahene, the supporters claimed, unknown in the NPP in Asuogyaman, but also not a son of the soil of the district.
“Lastly, because Mr Banahene is a friend to the Local Government Minister and both hail from the same town, Okere, he wants to impose him on us. Though Mr Banahene failed to be shortlisted at the Regional Vetting, he smartly found his way to be considered at the National Vetting because Mr Dan Botwe is the National Vetting Committee chairman. We want to tell the Minister that he has taken the wrong move. And as supporters of the NPP in the Asuogyaman Constituency, who know what is best for us, we want to tell the Minister that his choice of DCE candidate for us is not welcomed,” Asare Ronald Alex told a section of the media at a brief presser at Akrade.
He claimed that checks by the executives of the party at the region and presidency revealed that the Regional Vetting Committee shortlisted Christian Okomfo Addo, current Constituency Secretary, Daniel Adu Appea, current First Vice Chairman, Samuel Kwame Agyekum, incumbent DCE, and Saviour Kwaku Woanyah, a former constituency officer, for the position.
“While we were in anticipation to have one of these nominees: Mr Addo, Mr Appea or Mr Woanyah as recommended for the DCE position in Asuogyaman, Mr Dan Botwe, the Local Government Minister, thinks he is so smart to sneak his darling boy’s name on to the list. We are wide awake now. We want to tell him (the Local Government Minister) that what he did in 2005, when he imposed Ntow Bediako on us as DCE, will never happen in 2021”.
“Owusu Banahene Frimpong was disqualified at the Regional Vetting Committee and that should end his aspirations. Dan Botwe must not dare or the NPP in Asuogyaman won’t be lively for all of us”, He said.
The Asuogyaman Constituency NPP crusader and convener said the supporters and traditional authorities are patiently waiting for the final announcement to be made by President Akufo-Addo “and should Owusu Banahene Frimpong’s name be mentioned as the new DCE for the Asuogyaman District, the indigenes of Asuogyaman will arise against him and how we will do that, Ghana will know it later.”
