The National Democratic Congress Youth Organizer for Ablekuma West Constituency, Caroline Dede Dalmeida has charged the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for the area, Ursula Owusu Ekufful not to blame residents of Chokor for her inability to executive any meaningful development in the area.
She said, Ursula Owusu Ekufful, who doubles as Minister for Communications, cannot hide behind alleged sabotage to justify her incompetence which has left the Constituency with no development.
Responding to claims by the MP that Chorkor boys intentionally collapsed a bridge she constructed, Miss Dalmeida said “…this is just one of the many instances Ursula has insulted and disrespected the people of Chokor. To say that these people intentionally collapsed a supposed bridge is to say they are unpatriotic and I think the people must not take this allegation lightly.”
“The bridge, as we all know, was washed away by the rain because it was shoddily constructed. The people of Chokor did not cause the rain to fall so why should they be blamed for it? If they had wanted to destroy the bridge as Ursula wants the world to believe, they would have done so the very day it was constructed. If Ursula truly believes that these people destroyed her bridge, she should get the people arrested” she noted.
Hon Ursula Owusu-Ekuful is reported to have said she suspects some miscreants in her constituency intentionally plotted the collapse of the floating bridge which connects her constituency to neighboring Ablekumma South area.
The floating bridge which was recently constructed and Commissioned by the MP to facilitate the ease of movement across the Chemu canal connecting Chorkor to Shiabu in Accra was washed away by the floods caused by a heavy downpour on Sunday, April 26, 2020.
Speaking to journalists in Parliament on Thursday, April 30, 2020, the MP who also doubles as the Minister for Communications lamented why some members of the community would deliberately plot to destroy the bridge which was serving the needs of the entire community because of their own parochial interest.
She alluded to the fact that some of the residents were seen jubilating about the collapse of the bridge and suspects that those operating make shift toll bridges over the Chemu canal who collect 20 pesewas from each resident crossing have something to do with the incident.
“It was some miscreants living in the community who tampered with the bridge leading to its collapse. It is not as a result of the flood as has been suggested by some people. The people who are making money from the people from their toll bridges know something about this issue,” she stated.
But Miss Dalmeida rebuffed the MP’s claims, saying “if you’ve exploited people who gave you opportunity to put food on your table for long and the people later realize your antics and are upbeat about removing you from office, you spew the kind of lies Ursula is throwing about. Unfortunately for her, the people of Ablekuma West are not gullible as she thinks…who doesn’t know the bridge was poorly done?”
