The legitimate chief of Pantang, Nii Kortey Afutu Brempong III also known in private life as Daniel Richard Kortey Neequaye has informed the people of Pantang as well as the general public to disregard any person going round parading himself as the chief of Pantang.
NIi Brempong III made this statement when he addressed the media at a press conference over the weekend.
He recounted how a certain man by name, Mr. Tawiah attended a press conference by IMANI Africa, a policy thinktank on a the theme;
“Addressing the Challenges of property Registration in Ghana” held in Accra on the 9th Day of September, 2020.
According to information, Mr.Tawiah Introduced himself as the Chief of Pantang thus deceiving the people gathered therein as well as other audience who were following the event at thier individual homes and other locations through virtual means.
He further stated that the chieftaincy dispute dates back from the nineteenth century,specifically beginning in 1914 where our forefathers and those of the Kley families started Litigation over who is the rightful heir to the Pantang chieftaincy throne.
These disputes according to Nii Brempong III continued until an injunction was issued by the court after the La Nkwantanan Municipal Assembly hauled the two factions to court and succeeded in obtaining an injunction banning both families from claiming chieftaincy title of Pantang.
According to Nii Brempong, all judgements from 1941 thus, from the supreme court of Gold-Coast to modern day’s Supreme Court of Ghana, have been in favour of the Afutu Afutu Brempong family hence the Kley family has no legitimacy right whatsoever to claim a chieftaincy title at Pantang.
In February 2020, the supreme court passed a judgement forbidding any member of the Kley family to call himself as the Chief of Pantang . Teshie consists of five clans namely; Krobo, Kle, Agba-We, Lenshie, and Gbugbla respectively.
On June, 2020, the National House of Chiefs issued a certificate to him after going through all documents and In a related development, one Mr. Stephen Nii Akwei Thompson Chief Executive Officer( CEO) of Masdec Construction company Ltd. Who doubles as a Power Of Attorney (POA) holder and currently developing a portion of a parcel of land at the Pantang Hospital,an area which is part of the Nii Afutu Brempong family land.
In an interview with the media, Mr. Akwei alluded to the fact that a company by name Galee Company Ltd. Has a genuine land entitlement document issued to it by the Nii Afutu Brempong family of Pantang .
On the issue of the purported demolition exercise said to have been carried out on the same piece of land being developed by Mr. Akwei’s Company, he narrated that he had a call in the morning on the said date from some one on-site about the demolition exercise so he had to place some phone calls and upon enquiries, the….. regional office of the Ghana Police Service denied haven sent any of thier men to undertake such an exercise Upon further investigations, it emerged that one Maame Ama, a daughter of a woman whom the Nii Afutu Brempong family sold a parcel of land to had gone to the Police Head Quartes to seek for permission as well as acquire a Demolition Order and some Police Officers in order to be able to carry out the demolition exercise.
With the help of the Police however, it was found out that this documents in the possession of Maame AMA were same documents which were issued to Masdec Construction Ltd. (Agent) By the court, granting a (POA) to the former and giving it a broad legal authority to make legal decisions about the principal’s property.
