The Ghana Branch of Direct Aid Society has on Thursday organized it annual Qur’an Memorization Competition in Accra.
The competition is categorised into three parts; memorisation of the full Qur’an, memorization of half of the Qur’an and memorization of parts of the Qur’an recitation.
The competition is aimed at motivating and inculcating in the youth the desire to learn the Qur’an as a guide to shaping their lives to gain salvation in the hereafter.
Outlining the importance of Qur’an memorization, Mr. Abdallah revealed that reading any part of the Qur’an comes with blessings and as well guide mankind to get closer to his maker.
This he said shows that the Qur’an was from Allah and made for mankind to shape his life and do good deeds as well as live a decent life.
On his part, the representative of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osuman Nuhu Shaributu, Dr. Marzuk Abubakar Azindo called on participants to see the competition as an opportunity to reafirm their commitment to the importance of the Holy Qur’an the sentuality of the revealed text in the Islamic Community.
According to him, the Holy Qur’an is a tool of guidance and it contains different explanation depending on ones understanding.
He urged the participants to read the Qur’an, understand it, comply with it and to propagate it adding that if one is able to utilize this four dimensions approach to the Qur’an, “in the end we will not remember how we have suffered to read the Qur’an but how we have benefitted substantially from the Holy Qur’an.
The special Coordinator at the Office of the President for Inner Cities and Zongo Development, Hon. Ben Abdallah Banda noted that reading the Qur’an has the ability to make one’s thinking faculty stronger.
He therefore encouraged fellow Muslims to continue to read the Qur’an “the more you read the Qur’an, the more you stand to benefit”.
The Coordinator revealed that the Zongo Development Fund has partnered Direct Aid Ghana and has benefitted from the organization hence the need to consolidate fund’s relationship with Direct Aid.
He said the Zongo Development Fund is also ready to assist Direct Aid and other Muslims adding that his doors are open for students in the area of science and arts who have financial difficulties.
For those who memorized the one-third of the Qur’an, Turhir Amin came third with 87 points, the second winner Amin Bello had 91 points whilst the Winner Ibrahim Amartey pulled 92 points.
In the memorization of half of the Qur’an, Ilias Abubakar came third with 92 points, Abdallah Ishak came second with 95 as Abubakar Musah came first with 98 points.
On memorization of the entire Qur’an, Abdul Razak Tetteh came third with 93, Arafat Yakub came second with 95 and Abubakar Ilias had 96 points to win the first position.
