Professor Ransford Gyampo, a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, has questioned the demand for the late Professor Mills’ autopsy report.
The family of former President John Evans Atta Mills has launched a new campaign to verify the cause of his death. At a meeting with President Akufo Addo, Kyedomhemaa of Ekumfi Asaman, Nana Enyimfua III, appealed to the President to assist them in retrieving the autopsy report that was carried out following the death of their beloved son some 12 years ago on July 24, 2012.
However, Professor Ransford Gyampo is of the view that the renewed cacophony about the late President’s autopsy report is much ado about nothing because Mill’s death was not mystifying.
According to him, since President Mills was not very healthy and died without warning, he cannot see the significance of a debate over an autopsy report in the current political climate where the government is expected to address key issues to allay the economic crisis into which they have plunged the nation.
“Did President Mills die mysteriously? Was he hale and hearty and died suddenly? What will an autopsy report do for anyone at this particular moment and point in time when we are expected to keep the government on its toes to ensure that it delivers on our bread and butter issues?”
The lecturer indicated that Dr. Cadman Mills (the late President’s brother) has his brother’s autopsy report and questioned why he would discuss it with the President, who is neither a medical doctor nor works in a hospital.
“Dr. Cadman Mills says he has a copy of the autopsy report of the death of his brother, President Atta Mills. So why go discuss this with the President? Is he a hospital archive or a Medical Doctor? Is this the most important thing to the people of the local community of President Mills?”
The professor advised citizens to prioritize national issues over personal concerns, particularly in holding the feet of this government to the fire of accountability.
