The Ahafo Regional Police Command have cautioned the youth in the region to desist from creating violence in the ongoing voters registration exercise to avoid the wrath of the police.
The Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Augustine Anyara in an interview with the PAPER said this time round the police will either not entertain or spare any person who tries to temper the smooth flow of the voters registration exercise to be rolled out by the Electoral Commission (EC) beginning from 30th June to 6th August 2020 for eligible Ghanaians.
According to him, the Regional Police Command which is mandated to ensure that absolute peace is experienced at every registration centre in the region have put measures in place to deal with persons who try to be obstacle to the roadmap of EC.
He revealed that the police have identified some areas in the region where violence are likely to emerge and with this, security issues will be strengthened to allow the EC to undertake its mandatory exercise thus voters registration towards the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.
He told the youth not to allow themselves to be influenced by politicians to create violence because the police will arrest culprits and forward them to court as the law demands. He added that his institution will not entertain and accept apology after the arrest so all must take note.
The Regional Crime Officer mentioned, now people must know the Ahafo is a region and every government institution just like the police has men who are capable to handle issues. The attitude of the police some years back on elections related issues has changed drastically so all must have it mind.
He lamented that it is mind blowing to see the some of the youth always planning to cause mayhem in election year in the region to the extent of attacking others with sticks, axes, machetes among others ending victims with deformities.
” The police will passionately deal with persons who will create violence to stay away ” he warned the youth.
To him the police will not sit aloof for few people to tarnish the image of the region with violence. According to him committees are formed to curb elections violence in the region from district level to regional.
