Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Communications Director for the 2024 Bawumia campaign, has criticized the National Democratic Congress, (NDC), casting doubt on their commitment and credibility in addressing Ghana’s ongoing illegal mining crisis, widely known as galamsey.
Speaking in an interview on Joy News, Aboagye expressed frustration over the galamsey situation, suggesting the NDC had been warned about the consequences but failed to take appropriate action.
“Sometimes when I wake up and see the issues around galamsey and how this government is struggling with it, I feel like just laughing at them. We told them, and they knew what we were saying was true,” hesaid.
He also took aim at President John Mahama, accusing him of emboldening illegal miners with his campaign messages.
According to Aboagye, Mahama’s remarks on the campaign trail undermined efforts to address the galamsey problem.
“We told them it was wrong for a presidential candidate to stand on a campaign platform and say, ‘I don’t see the reason why the NPP would arrest people in the pit, and when I come into office, I’ll release all the galamseyers.’ That’s what he said,” Aboagye recalled.
