On Wednesday morning, the cameras of Awake News caught a tricycle carrying about 20 car tyres, inconveniencing other motorists on the Dawhenya road.
The goods were so weighty that the tricycle, with no registration number, travelled at a snail’s pace, thereby, resulting in heavy vehicular traffic on the stretch.
Surprisingly, the personnel of the police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), who often stand by the road every morning to supposedly check drivers’ licences, overloading of vehicles and vehicles insurances and road worthy certificates, looked on as the deadly overloaded rickety tricycle passed by.
The police must be seen demonstrating professionalism by impounding such vehicles that pose threats to other road users.
The MTTD must help make our roads safe for all if we want to reduce petty road accidents.
