Dambai College: the agony of a teacher; hidden facts and the full story

[dropcap]H[/dropcap]e complied about 120pages pamphlet to sell to his students. The quality assurance office, which is the body that regulates pricing of pamphlets in his college pegged his pamphlet at GH¢7.00 – which was far below even the production price.

[ads1]He complained, wrote a letter accusing  the quality assurance office of being biased since other pamphlets of similar pages were priced at GH¢14. 00 – thus almost twice more than his price. He was asked by the his College principal to apologize for using the word ‘bias’, but he refused, saying bias does not mean an insult …….

This is how his idleness, discriminatory and psychological torture predicaments all started at his College of Education 2years ago. He had petitioned the governing council of the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) and Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) since 2015 but till date he has seen no progress.

Who is the teacher in the story?

Is Mr. Anthony Ameworwor Kumah, alias Coach. A physically challenged former Education foundation teacher at the Dambai College of Education in Volta Region of Ghana. He holds his first degree in Education Foundation and second Degree in Guidenace and Counselling from the University of Cape Coast. He has been teaching at the education department of the college since 2006.

Though Mr. Ameworwor has been taking his salary for the past 2years, he has allegedly been prevented from teaching in his department and only sits under the shadows cast by the beautiful tree on the campus of the Dambai Collage of Education. He is only allowed to assist one teacher at the Social Science Department when that teacher is overloaded whiles his field department “Education” lacks teachers.

He cannot speak to me – ‘a  poor hungry journalist’ because he is not permitted to do so under the Ghana Education Service Code of Ethics, so, I only see from afar, his tears flowing to make the campus’ grasses greener, his desire to teacher his field dashing into the tin air by the day and his uselessness in the college projected above the cloud of Dambai.

The source of his agony:

As a physically challenged person, he is entitled to “Guide Allowance” which he has been receiving since 2006 but was allegedly stopped under the watch of the current principal of the college.

Accusing the quality assurance officers of being biased and his failure to apologize, he allegedly incurred the wrath of the highest authorities that be at that college.

Mr. Ameworwor was then transferred from his field of study “Education” to complement another teacher in the languages department, rendering him useless.

Petitions and protests:

I have obtained a copy of a petition field at the National Council for Tertiary Education on June 29, 2015 (exactly two years ago) by Mr. Ameworwor. Please read it to yourself so you don’t accuse me of making ‘KonKonSa’ without evidence.

I had the opportunity to talk to one officer at CHRAJ who confirmed that a petition has been field at their office two years ago to that respect.

Recently, the current SRC president of the college was on an appeal mission too. He approached the college principal to see if he (the principal) can intervene and get them a teacher in the education department. However, his appeal fell on a deaf ears.

I am told one of the tutors at Dambai College of Education managed to get the phone number of the current Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Mathew Poku Prempeh, who, just six months in office, has already been rated by practitioners in educational sector as one of the “most serious, pro-active, competent and no nonsense tolerating education ministers in the history of Ghana”

And this was a petition the tutor sent to the Education Minister (Napo) via WhatsApp; {note a little change. But the facts remain same}

Our Honourable Minister, with all humility I’m on my knees pleading to come to the aid of tutors, non teaching staffs and students who are suffering from the mal administration hands of the Principal Musah Yaba

The abuses are too much. Honourable, could you imagine for three good years one of my colleagues have not been allowed by the Principal to enter his department and teach and he always come to the college and sit under a tree. Honourable, how long will this continue and is that how we are to build the nation? This my colleague did Educational Foundations and M.Ed (Guidance & Counseling) at first and second degrees respectively the only qualified tutor holding second degree in Education department and yet not allow by Principal to teach his students to acquire the professional knowledge.  He even vowed that over his dead body would that teacher enter Education department to teach.

we petitioned the then Governing Council and NCTE but everything proved futile because he ……… Principal hates to be told the true

He caused one of  our colleagues to leave the college the guy took him to court for four years now the case is still there in court.

I’m very sorry to use this medium to express my grievances

Your worried tutor,

Financial Loss to the state:

I have done a quick search and per Mr. Ameworwor’s rank of the education service, from September 2015 to June 2017, he has received a gross salary of GH¢55,938.00 for his reward of sitting under those trees at the Dambai College of Education and no one cares because those funds are coming from government coffers.

All the questions that need to be answered:

  1. What did the past education minister under the NDC government do about this or has the issue not come to his attention?
  2. Has the past NDC administration and the educational sector officers just turned their blind eye on this for the poor man and the state to suffer or at has not come to their attention at all?
  3. What is the leadership of the National Council for Tertiary Education doing about this? How long will they attend to the petition before them?
  4. What is the role of the previous College Council on this issue?
  5. Why has CHRAJ not yet completed and or slow in its investigation after two years of the case before them?
  6. What is the NPP government’ education minister going to do about this?
  7. Who must be held accountable for the lost GH¢55,938.00 in Mr. Ameworwor’s case?
  8. Or is this story not true?

Someone, sir, some state officials must answer these questions before my law suit come. I am told I will be sued for my series publications on Dambai College of Education. Sir, I just want the world to hear all these stories before I am sent to the court. Please, permit me to go and ask the authorities these questions. I beg you, Sir!

Boss: You have my permission, but just be very careful and all the best….

Surely, I will be, Sir. God bless you, sir……

Off! I am gone. Stay logged on as I bring you the answers soon.

But before I bring you the answers, I will soon tell you the “Goats and the Dukes” story and A Birth Certificate Forgery Saga…..yes. very soon before I go.
