Cricket: Ghana fails to qualify for ICC Division 5

The senior national cricket team failed to advance to the International Cricket Council (ICC) World League Division 5 in the qualifiers held in Benoni, South Africa.

The team, which had earlier gone to Benoni to further prepare for the tournament lost their first match against Germany in group B. Germany [ads1]scored 159-9 in 38.50 overs after winning the toss and fielding first.

They therefore won by a wicket as Ghana, who batted first scored 158-10 in 42 overs.

They however made amends against Vanuatu but couldn’t do same against Jersey. Their match against Vanuatu saw the latter winning the toss and electing to bat first.

Vanuatu scored 124-10 in 47.2 overs while Ghana scored 125-8 in 33.5 overs, thereby winning by two wickets with 97 balls remaining.

Jersey in the last group match had to bat first after Ghana won the toss and elected to field first. They scored 226-8 while Ghana could only manage 118-10 in 36.4 allowing Jersey to win by 108 runs.

Jersey and Vanuatu however advanced to the semi-final after Vanuatu shockingly beat Germany in the last group game. Vanuatu again stunned Italy who were undefeated in Group B to make it to the ICC World Cricket League division 4 alongside Jersey. Jersey beat Qatar by 7 wickets in the other semi-final.

The gold winning African champions lost the losers match to Guernsey last Thursday.
