COVID-19: Six more confirmed dead

Six more persons have died out of coronavirus as the country detects new variants of the virus.

According to the Ghana Health Service on Tuesday, this brings the COVID-19 death toll to 358 as the number of active cases crossed 2000 again since the outbreak hit the country.

The recent update provided by the Ghana Health Service on its website showed an increase in the country’s active cases from 1,924 to 2,174 as of January 16.

It follows the confirmation of 366 new infections across the country.

Til now, a total of 58,431 confirmed cases, 55,899 patients have recovered or been discharged while 98 cases were in severe conditions with 36 patients in the critical stage.

The update disclosed, out of the total confirmed cases, 23,001 were from the General Surveillance; 34,429 cases from the Enhanced Contact Tracing, whereas 1,001 have been recorded from international travelers debarking at the Kotoka International Airport.

The Greater Accra and the Ashanti regions continued to be the pivot of the virus in the country with cumulative cases of 33,017 and 11,401 respectively.
