The twelve elected assembly members of Krowor Municipal Assembly (KroMA) have secured funding and logistics to help in the fight against COVID 19 in their electoral areas.

The funds and logistics were sourced from Philanthropist and Companies within the Municipality. These include undisclosed amount of cash and foodstuffs including rice, gari, oil, Milo, soft drinks among others.

The move was necessitated by the MCEs neglect of the elected assembly members in the provision of food and other logistics for individuals and homes in the affected areas of restriction. Even though the President announced the steps taken by government to help the poor and vulnerable in the affected areas during the lockdown, the MCE have relegated the assembly members and is defying the directives of the President.

The President in his address to the Nation on 5th April 2020 noted that “The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and local Government and Rural Development and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) working with MMDCEs and faith based organizations have begun to provide food for up to four hundred thousand (400,000) individuals and homes in the affected areas of restrictions. This begun in Accra today and will begin in Kumasi tomorrow. It will come in the form of dry food package and hot meals, and will be delivered to vulnerable communities in Accra, Tema, Kumasi and Kasoa”.

However, the MCE has formed his own team which is unknown to the assembly and has delegated such authority to them. This the assembly members indicated that it is against the directive of the President. They further stated that the elected assembly members deal directly with the people within their electoral areas and are in the best position to lead the provision of foodstuffs and other logistics in their electoral areas.

They however thanked the Philanthropists and Companies who donated to help fight the COVID 19 in their electoral areas. Notable among the Donors are: Rev. Dr. Moses Ugbonogo, Nii Laryea Botwe (CEO of Liberty Industries, Producers of Kpook3k3),Paa Nii Agency, Baatsonaa Total, All Purified Water and King Solomon.
