The Deputy Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer of the opposition NDC, Amos Blessing Amorse has cautioned Ghanaians not to jubilat over President Akufo-Addo’s announcement yesterday that ‘lifeline consumers’ will enjoy FREE electricity for the next three months adding that per ECG’s calculations, most Ghanaians will pay 50% of the bill.
According to the outspoken youth leaders in a Facebook post sighted by Awake News, that statement from the President is a total scam and perhaps the President “adopted this strategy after he got everybody jubilating when he announced tax relief and allowance for ‘frontline’ health workers only for us to wake up the next day to be greeted with confusion surrounding who a Frontline health worker is.”
Explaining who “lifeline” electricity consumers are, using the calculations of the Electricity Company of Ghana’s own formula means any one who monthly eletricity consumption is below GHc16.63 as that amount translated into 51kwh power.
“Unfortunately for the President, the scam did do work this time round. Ghanaians were smart enough to quickly look for who a lifeline consumer is. Ghanaians, perhaps, did this because of how the President made a fool of them with his Frontline health workers promise. Apparently, a lifeline consumer, as the President himself stated, are those who consume between 0-50kwh of power. So on this prepaid bill below, 51kwh power cost GHC16.63 per ECG’s own calculation.” – Amos reveals
“What this means is that those who will enjoy free electricity are persons whose bills are below GHC20.”
“The question is, how many people in Ghana pay less than GHC20 electricity monthly?” – He quizzed
In Mr. Amorse’s analysis, “Even if there were people who paid less than GHC20 monthly bills, the consumption level is most likely to go up because of the lockdown. This is because they are now always at home and will use power 24/7. Certainly, President Akufo Addo will not get anybody whose monthly consumption will range between 0-50kwh not to talk of absorbing it for the person. Even if he gets people within that range of consumption, the number will be mockingly insignificant.”

‘SCAMMING’ THE ‘SCAMMER’
So the President’s strategy was to announce free electricity for ‘lifeline consumers’ and 50% reduction for persons outside that bracket with the intention that Ghanaians will not get to know immediately who a lifeline consumer is. The President perhaps adopted this strategy after he got everybody jubilating when he announced tax relief and allowance for ‘frontline’ health workers only for us to wake up the next day to be greeted with confusion surrounding who a Frontline health worker is.
With this lifeline consumers thing, what the President sought to so was to get his controlling media and Party communicators to get people to cheer his on that he’s offered free electricity for the next three months. So, for instance, when you get to town or listen to radio, all that you’ll hear is that “) manpanyen si yenyusu electricity free”. Those who will parrot this message, knowing very well we’ll not readily get to know who a lifeline consumer is, will then get all of us to believe that Akufo Addo, like other Presidents, is offering free electricity.
Unfortunately for the President, the scam did do work this time round. So on this prepaid bill below, 51kwh power cost GHC16.63 per ECG’s own calculation. Certainly, President Akufo Addo will not get anybody whose monthly consumption will range between 0-50kwh not to talk of absorbing it for the person. Even if he gets people within that range of consumption, the number will be mockingly insignificant.
This explains why the jubilation the President and his cheer leaders expected did not happen. Let’s conclude that President Akufo Addo and his government are offering 50% reduction in electricity as proposed by President Akufo Addo, and nothing free. Nobody will enjoy any free electricity. We export electricity to Togo, yet Togolese are enjoying free electricity for the next three months. When you say this, some ignorant government communicators will quickly tell you to move to Togo and enjoy free electricity forgetting that over the years we’ve paid our taxes to Ghanaian governments. Wait ooo, those who are Quick to make this infantile suggestion, are they aware the President has closed our borders? Hahahahahaha
