The Volta Regional Chapter of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has sent a strong worded message to the President Akufo-Addo led NPP government and especially MDCEs in the Volta region saying the fight against COVID-19 pandemic goes beyond affluence and arrogance.
In statement copied Awake News and signed by the Regional Secretary, Mr. James Gunu said government appointees “must stop hiding behind the fight against the virus to arrogantly usurp some malevolent powers to themselves”
“They must also learn to tolerate divergence opinions because, we shall resist and defend any further attempt by any MDCEs to take advantage of the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, to quarantine freedom of speech and lockdown on channels of communication in the region.” – he added
Mr. Gunu said “recent developments in Ketu South, Akatsi South, Keta and North Dayi constituencies suggest that, the MDCEs have adopted infantile tactics targeted at innocent citizens with no regard for community cooperation and solidarity in the fight against the covi-19 pandemic.”

“We are also not surprised about the conduct of some of these appointees who have been sleeping on the job but want to use this opportunity to please their appointing authorities to believing that they are working. Unfortunately for them, the bell for change is fast catching up with them.” – he added

THE FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19 PANDEMIC GOES BEYOND AFFLUENCE AND ARROGANCE
….ADVICE TO THUGGERY VOLTA MDCEs
The Volta Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress NDC wishes to advice the NPP government and its appointees, especially MDCEs in the Volta region that, the fight against COVID-19 pandemic goes beyond affluence and arrogance. Hence, they must stop hiding behind the fight against the virus to arrogantly usurp some malevolent powers to themselves.
They must also learn to tolerate divergence opinions because, we shall resist and defend any further attempt by any MDCEs to take advantage of the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, to quarantine freedom of speech and lockdown on channels of communication in the region.
Additionally, their districts and municipalities may become pig headed should they continue to harass, intimidate and arrest our party members for vile reasons.
Sadly, recent developments in Ketu South, Akatsi South, Keta and North Dayi constituencies suggest that, the MDCEs have adopted infantile tactics targeted at innocent citizens with no regard for community cooperation and solidarity in the fight against the covi-19 pandemic.
We are also not surprised about the conduct of some of these appointees who have been sleeping on the job but want to use this opportunity to please their appointing authorities to believing that they are working. Unfortunately for them, the bell for change is fast catching up with them.
We further called on the thuggery MDCEs to rather be humble and adopt a non-partisan approach to the fight against the covi-19 pandemic at their level without let.
Security personnels who allow themselves to be used by these corrupt politicians are doing a lot of disservice to the state and this generation.
In conclusion, we want to profoundly commend all health workers in the region for their sacrifices and commitment to the profession and humanity even as we all do our best to ensure that the volta region remained safe from the scourge covid-19 pandemic.
