Though the district has since not recorded any case of the Covid-19 pandemic, the move according to authorities at the Assembly is in preparedness for any eventuality.

Speaking to Starr News, the District Chief Executive for the area, Thomas Zonyrah Moore said, “we are not waiting until there is a case before we start looking for a place to isolate or manage the cases. We are aware of the unwillingness of the hotels to allow the usage of their facilities, thus the decision.”

“The facility has everything including a kitchen and washrooms in each of the rooms that would give the needed comfort to whomever may be brought here,” he added.

So far, all blood samples of some 21 persons who were put under mandatory quarantine within the district have tested negative at the Noguchi Memorial Medical and Research Institute.

Mr. Zonyrah Moore also revealed that, “we have an isolation center at the Adidome hospital but that is for persons who may have to be quarantined until testing is done for them.”

The District Assembly in a bid to curb the spread of the pandemic into its jurisdiction, has put in place a rigorous preventive mechanism by decongesting markets in the district, sharing of free nose masks and other PPEs to identifiable groups, coupled with an extensive radio and community based education to ensure adherence to the Covid-19 protocols.

As part of the measures, the authorities at Assembly has designated check points where people entering the district are screened.

The Volta region has since recorded 32 cases of the novel coronavirus with a significant record of 9 recoveries.
