Before President Akufo-Addo fully constitutes his news government that is being challenged at the Supreme Court by the opposition National Democratic Congress’ John Mahama, he has already by public pressure to suspend school fees and admission fees for tertiary education student in the country as part of the Covid-19 relief programme.
A social media campaign with the hashtag #SuspendTheSchoolFees is gradually gathering momentum following a motion filed in Parliament of Ghana by the Bakwu Central Member of Parliament, Mahama Ayariga demanding that the President as part of the Covid-19 Relief Programme suspend school fees for tertiary education students.
With the campaign, it appears the MP has spoken the minds of many Ghanaians who took to social media to put pressure on the government to consider the MP’s position.
“That this House Resolves to request the President of the Republic of Ghana to take urgent steps to suspend the payment of admission fees by new entrants into public tertiary education institutions and continuing students of those institutions for the 2021 academic year as part of the national COVID relief programmes being implemented by Government” – Mr. Ayariga said in the letter.
