This new case has upped the total number of cases to some 1,281 with 1,227 recoveries.

On the back of this, the active cases in the cosmopolitan area is 44, Patience Mamatah, who is the Ashaiman Municipal Health Director, has said in Ashaiman, describing the situation as worrying and disturbing.

“In spite of this dire and alarming situation in the municipality, the people are not bothered as they still disregard the Covid-19 health safety protocols at public places and gatherings,” the Ghana News Agency reports.

Indeed, the fever with which the safety protocols were adhered to the letter in Ashaiman has sharply taken a nosedive as the people now hardly believe Covid-19 is real.

Most Veronica buckets at the entrances of most schools, churches and shops hardly contain water for handwashing as the practice is before one is allowed entry to such places.

Most schools and churches have relaxed the wearing of the nose mask and rarely use the hand sanitizer at their entrances.

Also, very few passengers, traders and persons at social gatherings observe the protocols and these are persons who are bent on staying safe.

The revelation by Patience Mamatah places huge responsibility on the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) and opinion leaders in the municipality to rekindle the public education on the adverse consequences of Covid-19 and the need for the public to practise the insurance protocols.

Schools and religious leaders should not relax educating their pupils and congregation on the importance of especially wearing nose masks and keeping physical distances at all times.

Ultimately, the GPRTU and sprinter transport unions in the municipality should ensure that every passenger puts on their nose masks before boarding a vehicle at the stations to drastically slow down the spread of the deadly Covid-19.
