Convid 19: Ghana’s cases rise to 9

The Information Minister, Kojo Oppong  Nkrumah has announced that Ghana’s case of the novel coronavirus has gone up by two (2) making the total positive cases to nine (9).

In a Twitter post, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the cases were confirmed overnight.

Health services are still managing all suspected and confirmed cases well,” he wrote.

Health authorities said they received another report from the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) on March 18 indicating two more confirmed cases from the Greater Accra Region.

“Both are imported cases. One is a 56-year-old man, a Ghanaian who traveled back to Accra from a trip to UK about a week ago.

“The other is a 33-year-old Ghanaian, who returned to Accra from a conference in UAE. Both cases are receiving treatment in isolation,” the Ghana Health Service wrote on its website.

“Currently, there is no death and all the nine confirmed Covid-19 cases are being managed in isolation and are responding well to treatment,” they added.

Contact tracing

A total of 399 contacts have been identified and are being followed up for the confirmed cases.

“Nineteen of the contacts developed some forms of symptoms and samples have taken for laboratory testing.

“We have received results for 15 of them which are all negative for COVID-19 and we are awaiting results for four (4) of them,” GHS said.

President Akufo-Addo’s ban on public events:

The President was on March 15, 2020 place a ban on all public events including church activities, conferences, political rallies, funerals, festivals among others.

However, it was reported yesterday that a pastor in Kumasi was arrested for organizing a church activity in contravention of the president’s directive. Meanwhiles, the National Identification Authority has also defied the directive by resuming its mass registration exercise in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

In the latest development, President Akufo Addo is said to have held a Breakfast Prayer meeting this morning at the seat of government, the Jubilee House with some key leaders of the Christian community to pray against the spread of novel coronavirus.
