President Akufo-Addo

The Volta Regional Chapter of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has described President Akufo-Addo’s visit to the region as deceitful and disillusioned following the lined-up activities amid his visit to the region.

President Akufo-Addo on September 9, began a two-day working visit to the Oti and Volta Regions, the stronghold of the National Democratic congress (NDC) and is expected to interact with chiefs and people of the two regions, cut sod for projects, and commission a few others.

The President as part of his visit commissioned a lorry park and storm drain (gutter) at Anfoega.

This according to a statement signed by the Regional Communication Officer, Sorkpa K. Agbleze, brought nothing but sadness and left indigenes speechless.

“The NDC and the people in the Volta Region are saddened by the humiliating package of activities lined up for the President during his visit to the Volta Region. Some of the activities included the commissioning of a lorry park and a storm drain (gutter) in Anfoega”.

Adding, “Commissioning of lorry parks and storm drains is the traditional responsibility of Unit Committees and Assembly members. For the President to travel all the way from Accra to commission a lorry park leaves one to ask if the President is now a DCE. This is what happens to a president whose government has marginalised and neglected a region for almost five (5) years”.

Stressing, the people of the Volta Region were expecting the President will come and commission the Eastern Corridor road which was loudly touted under the year of roads, Volivo Bridge, several One District One Factory projects, Ho- Aflao roads, water projects among others. Unfortunately, he had to commission a lorry park.

They continued; The President commissioned the Gbi – Godenu Rural Technology Centre/Light Industrial Area located in Hohoe. This project was initiated and completed under the Infrastructure King, H.E John Mahama, before H.E Nana Addo assumed governance of the country in January 2017. The commissioning of the Rural Technology Centre by the President has exposed the lack of significant infrastructure development projects in the Volta Region by his administration.

Lamenting, the UHAS Campus in Hohoe has been neglected by President Nana Addo for almost five years. There is no significant change to this project from where former President John Mahama left it in 2016. The same fate applies to the School of Midwifery and Nursing that President Nana Addo cut the sod for at the UHAS main Campus.

In furtherance, the Volta NDC reiterated they are “drawing the attention of the President to the disappointment of the people of the region with his visit because he has nothing significant to show in terms of infrastructure development in the region”, and thus, compelled to conclude that the President’s recent visit to the region clearly shows that he is not sincere about his proposal to marry the region”.

President Nana Addo’s marginalisation and neglect of the Volta Region exposed.

Never before in the history of politics of neglect and marginalisation has any Ghanaian government been so pathetically exposed as what happened to President Nana Addo on his tour of the Volta Region in the second week of September 2021.

The NDC and the people in the Volta Region are saddened by the humiliating package of activities lined up for the President during his visit to the Volta Region. Some of the activities included the commissioning of a lorry park and a storm drain (gutter) in Anfoega.

The NDC Volta is drawing the attention of the President to the disappointment of the people of the region with his visit because he has nothing significant to show in terms of infrastructure development in the region.

The NDC Volta is compelled to conclude that the President’s recent visit to the region clearly shows that he is not sincere about his proposal to marry the region. For this singular reason, the people of the region are profoundly reluctant to accept his proposal.
