In an interview with Awake News, the Acting Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the North East Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Robert Anabiic Angmain, said the three suspects, namely; David Kwabena, Asante Abu and Nagiporm Natien were on August 5, 2021 found by police patrol team ploughing a portion of the said disputed land with an unregistered red Fergerson tractor.

The suspects were subsequently arrested and arraigned before court on August 11, 2021.

The information from the police indicates that the land in question has been a subject of dispute between the Chokosis and Konkombas living in Chereponi and Saboba Districts respectively for some years now.

“In 2018, a conflict ensued among the two tribes leading to the National Security Council and the Police administration deploying Police and Military men to the area to maintain peace, law and order”, ASP Angmain disclosed .

ASP Angmain mentioned that, the dispute over the land was referred to the Ya Na, the Overlord of Dagbon to meditate and bring amicable solution and maintain peace. The Ya Na eventually declared the disputed land a “no go” area for any of the parties.

The police and the military have been patrolling the area to ensure that no one violates the orders of the Ya Na and to maintain the peace in the area.

However, suspect Nagiporm Natien breached the orders of the Ya Na and engaged suspects David Kwabena and Asante Abu to plough a portion of the disputed land with their tractor for farming purposes. And the police, upon a tip-off, went to the scene and arrested the three suspects, and after investigation charged them with the offences of conspiracy to commit crime, namely trespassing and trespassing, and subsequently arraigned them before the Yendi Circuit court.

The court presided by His Lordship Justice William Twumasi, admitted the three suspects to bail for them to appear before the Ya Na for a resolution of the case.
