In 2008, Mahama was selected as the running mate of presidential candidate Professor John Evans Atta Mills. The Mills-Mahama ticket was successful in winning the 2008 general elections, and Mahama assumed office as Vice President on January 7, 2009. As Vice President, he actively participated in policy formulation and implementation, contributing significantly to the development of the country.

Tragedy struck in July 2012 when President Mills passed away unexpectedly, resulting in Mahama assuming the presidency to complete Mills’ term. In December 2012, Mahama stood as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate in the presidential elections, securing a resounding victory and earning a mandate from the Ghanaian people for a full term.

Additionally, he championed social intervention programmes to alleviate poverty and reduce inequality.

Furthermore, Mahama’s emphasis on youth development and job creation led to initiatives such as the Youth Employment Agency, the establishment of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, and the establishment of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund to attract both local and foreign investment.

Comparing Mahama’s achievements with those of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, currently the Vice President of Ghana, is a non-sstarter. H.E. John Dramani Mahama is far ahead of Dr. Bawumia.
