The Member of Parliament for Central Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region, Alexander Roosevelt Horttordze has embarked on a project to get rid of the eye-related disease in his constituency.

In a project dubbed “Operation Free My People from Eye Disease”, the lawmaker for the past two weeks had organized an eye screening exercise for over two thousand people in his constituency.

Speaking to Awake News, Mr. Horttordze said during the eye screening exercise it was discovered that over 300 people have severe problems that need urgent medical attention hence his effort to get survey perforce for the victims.

For him, “the eye is one of the essential parts of the body that must be given adequate care and protection” adding that getting rid of eye-related diseases in the constituency can help bring development to his area.

They noted that the project has been done with support from US-based Life Vision Care and a Tamale-based Eye Care Centre who render voluntary services and subside the cost of medication and eyeglasses for him.

The surgery exercise which is expected to last six days has attracted about fifty Medical Volunteers from the United State and Ghana.
