Cape Coast Airport: You have lost it – Kofi Bentil blasts Bawumia

Kofi Bentil

Vice President of IMANI Africa, Mr. Kofi Bentil

The Vice President of IMANI Africa, Mr. Kofi Bentil has described as patently BAD idea anyone suggesting the contsuction of an airport in the Central Regional capital, Cape Coast.

For him, anyone suggesting that has “has totally LOST it” adding that “you want to fly planes for the rich 1% when you have a dangerous road claiming lives every year.”

Mr. Kofi Bentil’s comment is coming in the wake of Vice President Dr. Mahamud Bawumia’s announcement that, the if the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is retained in the upcoming December 2020 elections, the government will construct an airport in the Cape Coast.

But Dr. Bawumia’s proposal seems to be kicked against by many including Mr. Bentil who hails from Cape Coast.

According to Mr. Bentil the most sensible thing anyone could do is “simply dualise the [Accra-Cape Coast] road and then put rail beside it for the masses!!!”

“If Accra – Cape Coast road was dualised and straightened, it would be safe to drive there within 45 minutes in an average car.” – he emphasized

I come from Cape Coast.

An Airport in Cape Coast is a patently BAD idea and anyone suggesting that has totally LOST it.

You want to fly planes for the rich 1% when you have a dangerous road claiming lives every year.

You won’t simply dualise the road and then put rail beside it for the masses!!!

What thinking makes you leave that, and rather build a needless airport in Cape?

If Accra – Cape Coast road was dualised and straightened, it would be safe to drive there within 45 minutes in an average car.

To fly to Cape Coast from Accra would cost you

30 minutes to the airport

1 hour at the airport checking in and boarding.

15 minutes of flight time

30 minutes to get your luggage and leave the airport.

Commonsensically, will be faster to just drive!!!

And wherever you are coming from, there’s an Airport at Takoradi, a short drive (less than an hour’s) from Cape Coast.
